Shoulder Season – Opportunities & Challenges

It’s finally shoulder season, and many licensees will be already making plans for the coming ski season – It’s a great time to consider reviewing your liquor needs, both as regards licensing; and ‘due diligence’ which is the best line of defence against being found non compliant by LCRB or the RCMP.
LCRB are advising licensees that they will be deploying their Minor Agent Program (MAP) across the Kootenays before the end of this year – This involves them legally sending 16 and 17 year olds in to licensed premises to see if they can secure liquor service or not. Failing these tests means a $7000 Fine for the licensee (or a significant licence suspension), and a possible $575 ticket for the person that served the minor.
Please free to reach out for information on ‘due diligence’; good practices, changes to your licence; and also what measures to put in place to minimize failing a MAP test.
We have had a lot of fun over the past couple of weeks engaging with some of our client’s staff in both Fernie and Cranbrook – Their feed back has been very positive, and we look forward to helping you  however we can.
In any event, have a well earned break, or lull before ski season….
