THE WORLD DOESN’T NEED ANOTHER WHITE BOX

I’ve just returned from Ireland, and having spent time in Italy earlier this year, and it’s reminded me of something: I’m not personally drawn to the obsession with white, square boxes.
You know the look. White walls, sharp edges, black-framed windows and minimalist interiors that can feel almost devoid of personality.
Don’t get me wrong. Contemporary architecture has its place. But give me character, history, texture and spaces that tell a story.
Italy’s centuries-old architecture, beautiful proportions and aged stone. Ireland’s traditional homes, natural materials and connection to the landscape. Both have a beauty that can’t be manufactured.
And the interiors? Give me beautiful linens, rich velvets, botanical prints, traditional patterns and textiles layered with colour and texture. Give me antiques alongside contemporary pieces, and rooms that feel collected over time rather than delivered in matching boxes.
I’m not interested in creating a home that looks like everyone else’s Instagram feed. I want one that reflects the people who live in it.
At Anderson Consulting & Interior Design, I believe great design isn’t about following trends. It’s about personality, authenticity and knowing how to bring old and new together.
Give me a little imperfection. A little history. A beautiful fabric. A little soul.
Because a home should be more than a beautiful box. It should make you feel something.
Now tell me — are you team white box, or do you prefer character, warmth and interiors with a story to tell? 👇
