Provincial Cross Border Liquor Distribution

What do the changes to Provincial Cross Border Liquor Distribution actually mean for BC?

Following yesterday’s (some would say long overdue) decision to change Provincial rules that will allow brewers and distillers to sell alcohol directly to consumers across different Provincial jurisdictions.

Hopefully this means that BC’s Hospitality and Retail Liquor Licensees should be able to purchase wholesale liquor directly from Licensed Liquor Producers and Manufacturers across participating Provinces and Territories in Canada – Much like BC Licensees can purchase directly from Licensed BC Brewers, Distillers, and Wineries.

It also means that BC Liquor manufacturers should face fewer challenges in getting their products on shelves, and in Pubs or Restaurants across much of the country.

Since 2019, there have been no restrictions on individuals buying liquor for personal consumption in BC, from any licensed outlet across the country; and this should remain unchanged.

The new trade system is effective immediately, but British Columbia said it is aiming for February 2027 to get regulations in place.

Look out for updated regulations and policies from LCRB, LDB and Consumer Tax, during the coming months – In practical terms this is what will actually dictate what happens here…..
